It’s 2017, and it’s time to set new business goals. This month’s blog is all about helping you set yourself up for a profitable year. First, we’ll look at what made you successful last year and how you measure success. Then, we’ll look at how you can improve upon what was accomplished last year to achieve more in 2017.
Let's Take A Step Back
First, it’s important to take a step back and analyze what goals you accomplished last year. Whether you performed your first successful physical inventory count, finally set up EDI-ordering, or got your eCommerce site up and running, these are all incredible milestones that are worth celebrating. When you, a business owner, take the time to look at accomplished goals and completed tasks, you’re able to form a clear picture of where your strengths and weaknesses lie. Once you’ve identified your strengths and weaknesses, you can decide the best course of action for this year.
How Do You Know If You Were Successful?
Analyzing data and looking at facts are key to knowing what made you successful. For example, if your goal last year was to secure important contracts and drive sale for that contract, then running a “Sales by Contract” report is the report that you should analyze to know if you were successful. To access this report in The Uniform Solution, go to: Reports > Sales > Sales by Contract. Having a firm grasp on the numbers allows you to accurately measure the success of your business.
Set Goals for This Year
As I said before, identifying your businesses strengths and weakness will help you identify the right tasks to tackle this year. It’s important to note that while you are setting goals for this year, make sure that they are realistic. While you may decide that this year you want to set-up your eCommerce site and begin selling online, competing with Amazon should not be your goal. Instead focus on driving online traffic and business using the tools and capabilities that are available to you. Setting realistic goals for your business that include small stepping stones, will help you (and your employees) get behind them and accomplish them.
How To Improve This Year
This is another moment for reflection, and an important moment to articulate and write out how you will improve your business with the help of your employees. Make it a point to include action items while you are deciding how you’d like to improve your business.
