Windows Generic
Print Driver Install
(Seria
Connectionl)
If you are going
to connect your printer to your computer as a
Serial connection, you will use the Windows
Generic Print Driver. Follow the
instructions below to install the driver.
The instructions listed below are based on a
Windows XP install. If you are installing
a printer on a Windows 98 or Windows ME
computer, the screens will be a little
different.
Installing the Windows Generic Print Driver as a Serial
Connection

Click on Start >
Settings > Printers
.

Click on Add A
Printer
.

On the
Welcome screen click
Next
.

| 4. |
On the
Local or
Network printer screen select
Local. Remove the check
mark from Automatically detect and
install my Plug and Play printer click
Next
.

Select the printer port you
are connecting your printer to. The
default is LPT1 click the down arrow and select
COM1 click
Next
.

On the Install
Printer Software screen under
Manufacturers select
Generic and under the
Printers select
Generic/Text Only click
Next
.

If you have a generic print
driver already installed for another printer,
you will get the Use Existing Driver
screen. If you get this screen,
you need to select replace existing
driver click Next
.

| 8. |
On the Name Your
Printer screen,
replace the
Generic/Text Only with the name of your
printer. This will help to
identify the printer in your printer's
folder. Under Do you want to use
this printer as your default printer?
Select NO click
NO
.

| 9. |
On the Printer
Sharing screen, you can setup the
printer to be shared across your network.
Make the appropriate selection click
Next
.

On the Print Test
Page screen, if
you are installing a Receipt Printer you
can print a test page. However, if you
are installing a Tag Printer, select NO to
printing a test page (printing a test page to a
tag printer will cause problems with the
firmware) click
Next.

On the Completing
Add Wizard screen click
Finish . The
printer should be listed in your Printers
Folder.

NOTED:
After you have installed the Serial printer, you
must the Flow Control for the printer to
print correctly. Follow the instructions
below to set the Flow Control.

Right click on the serial
printer in the Printers Folder and left click on
Properties. Click on the
Port Tab
to bring
to the forefront (Windows 98 click on
the Details
Tab).

Click on the
Configure Button and set
the Flow Control to
Hardware. Click
Apply and then
OK
.
